Harness or Collar?

We get this question a lot and the answer is, both. Dogs should always have a collar on to have identification on them 24 hours a day in case of emergency. They should have tags that show their microchip number, your phone number and their name. If there is room on the tag, having an address is great, too. Harnesses are better for some dogs for walking if your dog tends to pull on the leash (this is another blog post). You don’t want your dog hurting themselves by pulling the leash and having the collar choking them. The most important function of a harness in our opinion, is for riding in the car. For the same reason that dogs can choke themselves on their collar when walking, this can become life threatening if your dog is attached by their collar in your car, and dogs should always be attached for your safety and theirs in a vehicle. Our favorite way for our dogs to ride with us is to have them wear a harness and the harness is attached to the back of the seat. Our smaller dogs all ride in a car seat that their harness attaches to. Of course, at Posh Doodle, we have all these options for you. You can’t have a Posh Doodle unless you have a safe Doodle with good identification and safety restraints for all those fun trips they love to take. Happy walking and happy riding.
